Lane's BBQ Rub Six Pack
Six full-size Lane's rubs in one pack — SPG, Signature, Magic Dust, Q-Nami, White Magic and Black Magic. Around 740 g of seasoning covering everything from a plain base layer to a heavy beef bark rub.
The Lane's BBQ Rub Six Pack brings together six full-size tubs from the Lane's range, around 740 g of seasoning in total. It is put together for people who want to work through the range without buying one tub at a time, and for anyone cooking across beef, pork, chicken and seafood in the same week.
The six were picked to do different jobs. SPG is the plain base layer. Signature and White Magic are the everyday all-rounders. Magic Dust is the sweet, smoky BBQ profile. Black Magic is the heavy beef rub built for bark. Q-Nami is the outlier, sitting closer to a togarashi-style seasoning than to a classic BBQ blend.
Lane's blends are made without preservatives, anti-caking agents or fillers, which is why they coat evenly and caramelise properly instead of sitting on the surface. It also means they need to be kept dry, because there is nothing in the tub to stop them clumping.
Top 5 Facts — Lane's BBQ Rubs
-
Magic Dust is an award winner
It took out "Australia's Best Pork Rub" with the Australian Barbecue Alliance, which is a fair indication of how it performs on pork shoulders and ribs. -
Black Magic gets its colour from charcoal powder
The blackened bark is not just heavy paprika. Charcoal powder is in the blend, alongside garlic, ancho chilli, smoked paprika, cracked pepper, raw and brown sugar, porcini and a touch of sumac. -
SPG is three ingredients
Salt, pepper and garlic, and nothing else. It is the one to reach for when you want the meat to taste like meat, and it works as a base layer underneath any of the other five. -
White Magic is built on umami, not heat
Garlic, onion, porcini mushroom, buttermilk and tomato. It infuses into the food as it cooks instead of sitting on top as a crust. -
No fillers means no anti-caking agents
Nothing in these tubs is there to bulk them out or keep them free-flowing. Keep the lids on and keep them away from steam and they stay loose.

How to use
- Pat the meat dry before you season. A wet surface makes the rub slide instead of stick.
- Apply an even layer from a height so it lands evenly, and do not rub it in hard.
- Let the meat rest after seasoning so the salt has time to draw in.
- For brisket and big beef, lay SPG down first and put Black Magic over it. The plain base seasons the meat, the top layer builds the bark.
- Apply Black Magic generously. It is meant to build a crust, not to be a light dusting.
- Use Q-Nami as a finishing sprinkle as well as a rub. It works sprinkled on just before serving.
- Go lighter with the sugar-based blends over high direct heat, because the sugar will colour up fast.
Storage & care tips
- Store the tubs sealed, in a cool dry spot out of direct sunlight.
- Keep them away from the stove and the kettle. Steam is what causes clumping, and there are no anti-caking agents in these blends.
- Never shake a tub out over a steaming pan. Tip what you need into a bowl or a shaker first.
- Use a dry spoon. A spoon that has touched raw meat should not go back in the tub.
- If a blend does clump, break it up with a dry fork rather than throwing it out.
FAQs
Which one do I use on brisket?
SPG as a base layer with Black Magic over the top. SPG seasons the meat without covering the beef flavour, and Black Magic is the one built for a dark bark.
How hot are these?
None of the six are built around chilli heat. SPG and White Magic have none to speak of, Signature is herb and citrus led, Magic Dust has a gentle kick, and Black Magic and Q-Nami carry a mild chilli note. This pack is put together for flavour, not for heat.
Where do I start if I have not used Lane's before?
SPG on a steak, then Magic Dust on pork or chicken. Those two will tell you quickly whether you want the plain end of the range or the sweet, smoky end.
Can I buy the tubs individually?
Yes. All six are sold as singles, and Magic Dust also comes in a 331 g tub if you find yourself using a lot of it.
Are they gluten free?
Not declared as gluten free. The tubs carry an allergen advisory for traces of soy, gluten (wheat) and peanut. Check the label on the tub if this matters for you.
How long will six tubs last?
That depends entirely on how you cook, but 740 g across six blends covers a lot of backyard cooking. Rubs do not spoil quickly, they just lose punch over time, so keep them sealed.
What makes Q-Nami different from the others?
It is the only one in the pack that is not a classic BBQ profile. Sesame, seaweed and mild chilli put it closer to a togarashi-style seasoning, and it suits seafood and stirfry as much as it suits steak.
