Natural Sheep Casing 26+mm 180m Tubed

Natural sheep casing, 26mm and up, 180m, salted and supplied on tubes.

All natural casings are packed in salt, this one included. What you are choosing here is not a different casing, it is a different presentation. The casing comes already loaded onto tubes, so you slide a length straight onto the stuffer horn instead of finding the end and threading it on by hand.

Loading is the part of filling that eats the most time and the most patience, particularly with sheep casing, which is fine enough to be fiddly when your hands are cold and wet. Tubed takes that step out.

Tubed or hank

• Tubed this one. Salted casing pre-loaded onto tubes, straight onto the horn.
• Salted hank the same casing loose in a hank. Lower cost, and you thread each length on yourself.

Same casing, same diameter, same fill capacity. The difference is time at the machine, not anything about the finished sausage.

Before you start

Being on a tube does not skip the soak. Most natural casings need soaking for at least 45 minutes before use. Rinse the salt off and run water through the casing as well as around it. A casing soaked properly is far less likely to split as it fills.

Storage

Keep unused casing in the fridge, re-salted and sealed. Do not store it rinsed and wet.
