Stainless steel S hook, 10cm (4in). The shortest of the three sizes we stock.

A short hook keeps the product close up under the rail, which is what you want when you are hanging a lot of small items in a limited space. Sausages, salami, snags on a drying rack, coppa, and the bits and pieces that end up hanging off a rack rather than a rail. It is also the size most people use for hanging tools and gear on a wall rack, where a longer hook would swing about.

Which size do you need

• 10cm (4in) for sausages, smallgoods, tools and gear on racks
• 15cm (6in) for general rail and rack work
• 20cm (8in) for larger cuts and carcass sections

If you are setting up a drying chamber or a cool room from scratch, most people end up with a mix rather than one size.

Why stainless

These hold meat in a cool room or a drying setup for weeks at a time, at high humidity, and they get washed down constantly. Plated or mild steel hooks pit and rust in that environment and the rust ends up on the product. Stainless washes clean and stays clean.

The polished S shape lets you lift product on and off one handed, which matters when the other hand is holding the weight.

Care

Wash in warm soapy water, rinse, and dry fully before storing. Retire any hook that has been bent open, pitted, or dropped on a hard floor, rather than straightening it and putting it back into service.
